Der Weg führt ihn durch den ausgedehnten Hamburger Hafen, kreuz und quer durch die Heide- und Agrarsteppen Norddeutschlands, nach Hannover, an der Weser entlang zum Atomkraftwerk Grohnde und durch das Weser Bergland zu den Externsteinen, an die Quellen Bad Pyrmonts, Lippspringes und Paderborns, schließlich an die Quelle der Emscher, nach Dortmund und durch das nördliche Ruhrgebiet.
