"Freie Flusszone Süderelbe" ist ein Kunst- und Forschungsvorhaben zur Neubestimmung eines Landschaftsraumes.
Bei Hamburg spaltet sich die Elbe für einige Kilometer in zwei Arme, beide sind zu kanalähnlichen Schifffahrtsstraßen umgebaut. Wäre es angesichts dieser Doppelung möglich, einen Teil des einen Arms aus der kommerziellen Nutzung zu entlassen? Was könnte dann hier geschehen und welch ein neuartiger Stadt- und Landschaftsraum würde sich entwickeln? Der etwa 7 km langer Abschnitt der Süderelbe zwischen Elbbrücken und Bunthäuser Spitze wird zur Freien Flusszone erklärt und in all seinen Möglichkeiten und Wirkungen erforscht.
